First Age of our life - we discover the art of walking, running, eating and playing.
Second Age - a time of responsibilities, we live our lives through our careers, families and friends, we depend on the advice, support and encouragement of people more experienced.
Third Age - heralds a new and exciting period of life, a period of mentoring opportunities, personal fulfillment and nurturing existing and creating new friendships.
Your overall wellbeing is paramount to your ability to age successfully and happily.
Research has shown that our need to be spiritual increases in importance when we enter our third age. This is due to the increased amount of time we have and the need to connect with a higher being or simply to be more in touch with oneself.
Social network and support is one of the most important factors affecting successful ageing.

Dear Chiou,
Have you received any comments from older people about the third age having stages within it. I find that there is a difference between e.g. 55 and 60, 60 and 65 and so on. Partly because of pacing oneself differently physically but also dependent upon whether involved in something interesting. I wonder if those organisations who want volunteers have really thought through as to whether they have activities to offer to those that truly suit the volunteer and the skills they might have to offer. Also, one's interests and willingness to do certain things change for no discernible reason just simply part of becoming older and perhaps wiser.
Your Elements sounds lovely, it is great to have someone who is truly interested in the concept of living for older people happily and not just simply ripping the money out which is rare. Money of course is important. I can't contemplate living at Elements at this stage because I have a little pet and to be brutally honest, probably can't afford it, but good wishes for the future. I hope you maintain your interest in the the older person. Regards, Dianne
